German used-car phrase
Unfallfrei
Accident-freeUseful translation
What it means
for the purchase.
A meaningful condition claim, but it needs a definition, ownership history and evidence. Cosmetic paint and structural repair are not the same thing.
The wording is one piece of evidence, not a diagnosis. Read it alongside seller identity, the complete advert, documents and an independent inspection.
“Laut Vorbesitzer unfallfrei” is weaker. It relays the previous owner’s statement instead of confirming what the current seller checked. Ask what evidence exists and write the precise accident-history statement into the contract.
Ask the seller.
- 01
Is the claim based on complete history?
- 02
Was any panel painted or replaced?
- 03
Put the claim in the contract.
Move the claim
into writing.
Save the advert and messages. If this phrase influenced the purchase, replace it with a precise, measurable statement in the contract.
For Austrian context consult the official §57a guidance, ÖAMTC buyer guidance and the EU cross-border overview.
